5 reasons we don’t do business with GoDaddy
1. Domain Camping. If you search for a domain on GoDaddy, but don’t purchase it, the company will often scoop up your domain and offer to resell it to you when you return later at an exorbitant rate.
2. Scandalous advertising. You saw the Super Bowl, and, maybe you like the provocative advertising (we don’t). It’s trashy and irrelevant to the web services they provide. We love good advertising. Ads that are thoughtful, creative and effective. Bad advertising is shameless, trashy, and self-serving.
3. GoDaddy hugely supports SOPA and PIPA. If you aren’t aware of the huge pitfalls, we recommend you read up on it.
4. CEO Bob Parsons took heat last spring for his elephant hunting excursion in Zimbabwe. We don’t mind hunting, but this gets a little extreme.
5. Their hosting is slow. Thousands of websites are packed on a single server which means they all compete for bandwidth. If you are hosting with GoDaddy, you may experience slower load times. This also means that your site is penalized by Google in search rankings and results.
If you’re looking for a domain, we recommend going with services like Namecheap.com, Name.com or even MediaTemple.net. There’s a lot of good options out there (and cheaper) that consumers don’t need to buy into GoDaddy’s pollution of the internet.
